Alex Long (b 1987) is an oil painter based in Oxfordshire. Painting primarily on location or ‘en plein air’ his works seek to capture the mood or essence of a place at a particular moment in time. By working from life and taking inspiration from nature and the seasons, Alex is able to develop a deep understanding of a landscape or still life, resulting in quick and lively compositions which express the beauty of the world surrounding him.

In 2023 Alex returned from living in Florence where he spent a year training at a classical arts academy to augment his self-taught studies. Before that he worked for 13 years as a Chemist in the Biotechnology industry until he took up painting full-time in 2022.

Alex has exhibited in numerous group shows including with the
Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the New English Art Club, and his work is widely held by collectors in the UK and internationally.
